Heavener rodeo slated Friday, Saturday

The 2017 Heavener Roundup Club Rodeo is slated to start 8 p.m. nightly Friday [July 14, 2017] and Saturday [July 15] at the Cecil Leachman Arena in Heavener.

There will be nine standard events: bull riding, bareback, ranch and saddle bronc riding, barrel racing, calf roping, team roping, steer wrestling and cowgirls breakaway roping.

There also will be pee-wee barrel racing for 9 and under and mutton bustin' for those 9 and under. There will be a nightly pay out and a trophy buckle will go to the two-night average winner. Mutton bustin' pre-registration begins at 6:30 p.m. with contests at 7 p.m. before each night's performances. There also will be a Kids Dollar Drop for 6 and under and calf scramble for ages 7-12.

Admission is $8 adult, $6 children 5-12 and free admission for those under 5.

The Rodeo Parade will be 4 p.m. Friday [July 15] in downtown Heavener. Line-up begins at 3 p.m. in the Heavener High School parking lot. Parade participants will receive a ticket for one free admission to the Saturday night rodeo. The public is encouraged to come out and watch.

Ward Rodeo Company from Coalgate is the stock contractor. It is part of their Stampede Series. The rodeo also will serve as a stop for the Heartland Youth Bareback Bronc Championship series.
