New 'First Fridays' event coming to Poteau

Historic Downtown Poteau has announced its list of upcoming events through 2018.

New this year include "First Fridays" events starting in April.

The adult-only events will run every first Friday of the month through September in the evening hours. There will be live music and a beer and wine garden. HDP has vouched it as a new way to bring nightlife to downtown.
Other events:

• Farmers Market will run from June through August or September dependent on produce production and be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Thursdays.

• A golf tournament will be held in June at the Choctaw Country Club.

• The car and bike show will be Sept. 22 with craft vendors, food trucks, kids area, burnout expo, sound competition, door prizes, music and a cruise to display entry vehicles and bikes.

• The annual Halloween Trick or Treat Walk will be on Halloween Day, Oct. 31, after school. Local businesses will hand out candy in the downtown.

• Dewey the Elf and Shop Small Saturday will be Nov. 24 and kick off the shopping season through Christmas.

• Chili Cook-off will be Dec. 14 with a raffle item to be announced.

• Christmas Light Show kicks off the first weekend in December with a light display moving to music. It is held in the Pocket Park on Dewey Avenue with hopes to eventually expand across the first three blocks of Dewey.
