The final unofficial results are now in for the Pocola school bond and Howe town Board of Trustees elections on Tuesday, with Pocola's bond failing and Holley Ann Gerdes coming out victorious in Howe.

Pocola's bond ended at 407 yes, 274 no. It needed 60 percent to pass, while only received 59.77 percent.

Poteau's school bond also failed at 703 yes, 802 no.

In Howe's election for an unexpired term on the Howe Town Board of Trustees, Gerdes received 24 votes (63.16 percent) to Keith Gammel's 14 votes (36.84 percent).

The Pocola proposition sought $6.03 million for two new facilities. A new event center for high school and middle school students also would have included safe rooms to serve as storm shelters for students and the public, according to Pocola Superintendent Lawrence Barnes. It would have been used for athletic competitions and included a stage for plays, concerts and assemblies and other events, Barnes said.

A new multipurpose building would have been added to the elementary school, he said. It would have included bleachers and an athletic court with room for a portable stage for assemblies and programs.
