The second annual Footsteps for Families 5k and One-Mile Fun Run raised $3,585.

The run was held Monday evening at the Poteau Carl Albert State College campus. It was hosted by the Department of Human Services District 16 Child Welfare team and saw 83 participants in the 5k.

Proceeds will benefit LeFlore and Latimer County foster children and help provide Christmas gifts, clothing, personal items, school supplies and any other needs the children may have.

“This event would not be possible without our community sponsors: Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma, CASC, LeFlore County Child Advocacy Center, Central National Bank, The Community State Bank, Price Cutters and Queen B Boutique,” said Jarrod Ridenour, child welfare specialist with DHS of LeFlore County.

The 5k top three male overall were Joshua Snyder (19:18), Jedd Kirby (19:47) and Jacques Adams (22:21).

The top three female overall were Barbara Johnson (22:06), Kristen Snyder (23:13) and Kristi McConnell (27:07).

“We would also like to express our appreciation to the Poteau Police Department for providing traffic control along the route, ensuring the safety of staff and participants,” Ridenour said.
