The National Weather Service in Tulsa has issued a Flash Flood Warning for the Poteau River near Panama from Wednesday evening to last into at least Friday evening.

At 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 8, the river was at stage 13:03 feet and flood stage is 29.0 feet. Minor flooding has been forecast.

The river is expected to rise above flood stage Wednesday evening and rise to nearly 32.7 feet by early Thursday afternoon.

The river is expected to fall below flood stage early Friday afternoon. More rainfall is expected through Wednesday morning and into Friday, which would cause the river to rise higher and be flooded longer, the NWS said.

At 33.0 feet, the NWS warns there will be moderate flooding of agricultural lands between Shady Point and Arkoma. Williams Road east of Panama and some local farm roads are flooded.
