Jake Gill — a former contender on “The Voice” television show — will kick off this year’s Summer Concert Series with an indoor show at the Donald W. Reynolds Community Center on June 16.

Advance tickets are $12 and tickets at the door will be $15. Doors will open at 7 p.m. and a large dance area will be available. All tickets are general admission.

A concession and beer also will be available.

Gill’s music has been described as red dirt-rock fusion. He was a third-round finalist for NBC’s “The Voice” in 2012. Since that time he has made his way around the industry performing on many stages and with hit artists such as Jason Aldean, Jake Owen, Easton Corbin and Chris Gagle.

He began his musical career later than some, having his own chiropractic practice in Hutchinson, Kan., in his early 30s and performing at area churches.

He decided to audition for “The Voice,” and the experience convinced him he could pursue music as a career.

Gill is currently working on his fourth album. A songwriter and singer, he writes or has a hand in all the songs on his albums.

According to Gill’s official website, listening to music was a huge part of his upbringing in Kansas.

“My grandpa was the one that really exposed me to country music,” Gill said. “I remember when I was a sixth grader, and he would let me drive the tractor around the farm. We’d hear all the old-time greats like Hank and Willie.”

The son of a music teacher, Gill said his view of music and performing was changed when Garth Brooks came onto the scene, bringing honky tonk bar music to a much larger audience with a bold, charismatic stage presence.

Gill said he strives for that type of raw energy to his shows, both on and off stage, connecting with listeners and fans that come to see him in concert.
