Voters in Panama voted overwhelmingly to renew a franchise agreement with Oklahoma Gas and Electric Co. on Tuesday [June 13, 2017].

Of the 73 votes cast, 70 โ€” 96 percent โ€” were in favor of the proposition and three against.

The vote renews the city's franchise agreement with the utility for another 25 years.

The franchise allows OG&E to building and maintain the lines and other facilities needed to supply electricity to the town. The agreement allows the utility to use city rights-of-way for that purpose.

OG&E serves more than 830,000 customers in 276 cities across Oklahoma and western Arkansas.
