Parrot Island Waterpark to host World’s Largest Swim Lesson

On June 22 Parrot Island Waterpark will host the World’s Largest Swim Lesson event.

Tens of thousands of kids and adults at aquatic facilities around the world will unite for the eighth year in a row to make noise that Swimming Lesson Saves Lives. The World’s Largest Swim Lesson will take place over the course of 24 hours Nation wide and an estimated 600 locations in more than 20 countries.

At Parrot Island Waterpark the event will begin with registration at 8 am. Registration is free and participation is for ages 3-17. The lessons will begin at 8:30 a.m. and are expected to conclude at 9:30 am.

Since it’s inception, more than 195,000 children and adults have participated in WLSL generating more than a half billion media impressions about the vital importance of learning to swim.

Tragically, in the U.S drowning remains the leading cause of unintended, injury related death for children ages 1-4, and the second leading cause of accidental death for children under 14. Research shows participation in formal swimming lessons can reduce the risk of drowning by 88 percent among children aged 1-4.

Bill Miller, General Manager at Parrot Island comments on the event saying, “We love hosting the annual World’s Largest Swim Lesson in order to make aware the importance of learning to swim and water awareness not only is it great for the kids but the community a whole.”

Parrot Island Waterpark is a destination for the Fort Smith community during the summer months.
