Poteau City Councilman David White is in custody in California on drug-related charges.

White was arrested after 3 p.m. Wednesday, Poteau Police Department said. He is in custody in California awaiting extradition by federal officers back to Oklahoma.

Northern California authorities were assisted by investigators from the Poteau Police Department, Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics and District 16 Drug Task Force in the arrest of White.

Poteau Police said the charges stem from from a year and a half long investigation by these agencies in which White was federally indicted in the U.S. District Court in Muskogee.

His charges include one count of drug conspiracy and four counts of distribution of methamphetamine.

White was arrested several months ago in Panama where he faces drug-related misdemeanor charges through city court.

The Poteau City Council was expected to remove White for missing over the allotted amount of absences a city councilman was allowed at next month’s meeting.
