Sands bags are available for free to the public at the Poteau Street Department on Oakland Drive behind Carl Albert State College, according to LeFlore County Emergency Management.

Michael Davidson, LCEM director, said overnight the area saw a half to three-fourth inches of rain Friday into Saturday.

For Saturday, Dec. 26 into Sunday, Dec. 27, there is an elevated risk for severe thunderstorms and isolated tornadoes. Flood warnings are in effect for the Poteau and Kiamichi Rivers and a Flash Flood Watch will be in effect through late Sunday.

The floods are potentially dangerous and life-threatening, according to the National Weather Service in Tulsa. There also will be an elevated severe hail and damaging wind risk mainly from mid-day hours Saturday through the afternoon and into the evening, NWS said.
